War - Know Your God

David Magness
This past week Pastor Matt continued his series “WAR: Know Your God.” If you weren’t able to attend or catch the message online, I would highly encourage you to visit heritagechurch.org/media and check it out. It is so incredibly important for believers to know their God, the authority He has over sin, and the power of the Holy Spirit that guides them and powers them in this life (Rom 8:26).
The power to overcome sin in your life isn’t rooted in motivation and self-discipline but from God through the Holy Spirit. The world has motivation and self-discipline, which ebbs and flows, but believers have the power of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22), which is constant and never-changing.

The power to overcome sin in your life isn’t rooted in motivation and self-discipline but from God through the Holy Spirit.

The Enemy knows he has lost the believer and has no authority over us, so why doesn’t he move on and stop trying to lie and deceive us? He doesn’t want the believer to know their identity in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit within them. He doesn’t want them to walk in a manner worthy of their calling (Ephesians 4:1, 2 Timothy 1:9), to live the abundant life they're called to live through the power of the Spirit. Why? Because it’s Light (Ephesians 5:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:5). It’s Light in a world of darkness, and Satan knows he can’t win that fight. Please take time today to read Romans chapter 8.  Here are some highlights:
  • There is now no condemnation to those in Christ...
  • The Spirit of life has set you free in Christ from the law of sin and death…
  • The righteous requirement has been fulfilled in us through Christ….
  • Walking according to the flesh vs walking according to the Spirit…
  • You (believer) are not in the flesh but in the Spirit…
  • The Spirit is life…
  • Heirs of God…
  • The Spirit helps us in our weakness…intercedes on our behalf…
  • All things work together for our good….
  • If God is for us, who can be against us…
  • We are more than conquerors through Christ…
  • Nothing can separate us from His love…
Enjoy God’s Word. Make it a point to spend time in it daily. Grow in your understanding of your new identity in Christ, God’s character, and don’t be ignorant to the schemes of the Enemy (Ephesians 4:14, 6:11).
