Literal Bible

Do we take every story or every word in the Bible literally? Did first generations really live for hundreds of years? Is there really going to be a 7-headed beast like Revelation speaks of (Rev. 13:1)?

If you don’t take a literal approach to the Bible you will have to interpret or spiritualize what it actually means. Does that not raise more questions? Who is now the authority on interpretation? Does this verse mean the same for me as it does for you? “Let God be true, but every man a liar.” (Rom. 3:4)

The best commentary ever written on the Bible is….well, the Bible.

When the Bible seems too crazy to be true just keep reading. There are times when the Bible uses symbolism or similes to illustrate things but it will say when it’s doing so (Rev. 17:9-12).

Well, those are just stories that invoke good behavior. What about here and now? If those “stories” can’t be taken literally do we really know God’s character? Can we take the Bible at it’s word when it says “we’ve been crucified with Christ” (Gal. 2:20) and that “we’re dead to sin” (Rom. 6:11)?

Do you consider the Bible more for encouragement or truth? Just how literal do we take our Bible?

“Study to show thyself approved…” (2 Tim 2:15)
